The Preparatory Department for Non-residents was founded in 1975. The department implements a wide range of educational programs of pre-university education, allowing non-residents to study in VSUET and other universities of the Russian Federation.
The main goals and objectives of the department are to meet the needs of students in intellectual, cultural, moral development and teaching things necessary for non-residents for further education in Russian universities, as well as to create conditions for the faster adaptation of non-resident students to the Russian education system and socio-cultural environment.

We are glad to welcome you to the Preparatory Department for Non-Residents! Our department has existed for over 30 years and has a glorious history and vast experience in training foreign specialists.
Russia’s entry into the world educational space increases the number of foreign citizens wishing to receive higher professional education in our country. The education of foreign students at the preparatory department is an initial and necessary stage in the process of training specialists for foreign countries in the universities of the Russian Federation. At our department, 100-150 foreign students are graduated annually.
Our department is a big friendly international family. Students from Africa, Asia, South America and other countries study in international groups. They study Russian language and Sciences. For this, the Deparment has two subdepartments:
- Department of the Russian language
- Department of Sciences
Traditionally, we pay great attention to extracurricular and educational work. To adapt foreign students and create favourable conditions for study and life, there are Russian language club and cultural events, group tutors and community leaders work at the department.
The department annually hosts various creative events: festive evenings, Olympiads in the Russian language, physics, chemistry, mathematics, thematic lessons. Every year our students take an active part in the city and national events and festivals.

Directions of training
The department of the Russian language is a part of the preparatory department for non-residents.
The department carries out educational and organizational, scientific and methodological activities in the following disciplines:
- «Russian as a foreign language» (stage of pre-university training, 1-4 courses of basic schools, undergraduates);
- «Russian language and culture of speech» (10.05.03 «Information security of automated systems»),
- «Business communications and etiquette in the professional sphere» (43.03.03 «Hotel business»),
- «Basics of business correspondence and business communication» (43.03.01 «Service»).
The main directions of research and scientific and methodical work of the department are:
- development of modern innovative technology for teaching Russian as a foreign language;
- language testing in the traditional form and by means of information technology.
The department has organized the Russian language club. The work of the sections is carried out in the following areas: regional geography, theatre, poetry, music. Film Club and Press Center are also active. The faculty of the department carries out interesting regional studies to increase interest in the study of the Russian language, traditions, culture and literature of the Russian people and other peoples of multinational Russia. Thanks to this, foreign students of the department regularly become winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian festivals of the Russian language, Olympiads, and folklore festivals.
The department pays great attention to improving the content and forms of adaptation of foreign students to new conditions of life and study for them, acquaintance with Russian culture, literature, traditions of the Russian people.
Scientific activity
The result of the scientific research of the department is the textbooks, dictionaries, methodological recommendations published in an intra-university way, which are widely used in the educational process, both at the department of the university and in other universities.
The faculty of the department has published:
- one monograph;
- 70 textbooks;
- 12 dictionaries;
- more than 30 educational and methodological brochures.
The department’s specialists present the results of their research at international, all-Russian, regional and interuniversity conferences, including the congresses of the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature and the Russian Society of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature. Over the past three years, the faculty of the department took part in 90 different conferences, published more than 150 research articles.
The faculty was replenished with young graduates of universities who are active and interested in the development of linguistic problems, as well as methodological issues of teaching Russian as a foreign language at the level of PhD thesis.
The faculty of the department supervise the research work of students. Students make reports at scientific student conferences at VSUET and other universities in Russia.
The department offers foreign citizens Russian language courses lasting from 1 to 6 months.
